Uncover
To uncover means to expose, unmask, and reveal. During the past week information has come to light in several situations. What most people don’t realize is that the truth always comes out. It may take time, but regardless of how long it takes the real, authentic story will be unveiled. The same rule applies with people. After a while, people will show their true colors. Many times we are dismayed by the mindset of those we thought we knew. Unfortunately, many people are great actors and actresses until they have the appropriate platform to reveal their character. As I scroll up and down my social media pages, I see many comments that are racially motivated. I guess I could be described as naïve. I didn’t know that people in 2014, still had the same views as they did in the 60’s. It’s funny how people hide behind the computer screen and throw darts of hatred and racism on open platforms. Many of these people even go to great lengths to change profile pictures to cartoon characters, flowers, dogs and other things just to further hide their identity. It often reminds me of the white costumes that were often used to hide the identity of a supremacist group that was started in the 1960’s. This group emphasized the idea of secrecy to be able to blend in to society and commit racially motivated crimes against a particular group in the community. Present day, we see the same type of behavior. Modern technology has created an environment for people with this same mentality to hide and then blend in and appear unbiased until the right time is present. The issue with the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, as well as the shooting in Los Angeles has created a platform for racial tension to escalate. People with this mindset have always felt this way and now the truth comes out. It’s amazing how many people still want black people to be exterminated. It’s amazing how many people think it’s funny that we are being shot down in the street like animals. I just read a comment that stated, “Go eat a banana knuckle dragger”. It makes me sick that these are the people that we still have to encounter every single day. The funny part is, the very ones that still have this mindset are the most uneducated, misinformed, ignorant individuals walking the earth. If this individual was in a situation where he was face to face with the people he felt this way about, he would be immediately intimidated. The beauty of evolution is that most of us would not even entertain someone so absolutely disrespectful. I do not like cowards. Honestly, “To Thine Own Self Be True”. Those that feel that way need to stop hiding under your costumes and be who you really are so that we can deal with you accordingly, meaning we won’t deal with you at all. This week has been a week of revelation, disbelief, and acceptance. Unfortunately, the truth is sometimes harsh. Regardless of whether or not we like it, always remember, John 8:32, “The truth shall make you free”.
