I am not my hair or am i
As you can see, I wasn't born with much hair. My natural hair journey began around 2009. My stylist at the time, was the best! He always practiced superb hair care. My stylist always used a technique called texlaxing to gently relax the curl pattern in my hair. He also stretched the time in between my touch-ups so in actuality, he was slowly transitioning my hair before I ever thought about going natural. I remember during the blizzard of 2010, I was coming up on 16 weeks without a shot of "creamy crack" and I had a fit. The funny thing is, I always liked the fullness of my hair when my touch-up got old. After a while, I wanted to try something different, plus I saw the movie "Good Hair." This alone helped me begin my transition into a natural state of mind.
It was hard and I failed once and had to start again! Going into the spring of 2011, I had no idea what I was gonna do with my hair. My good GF, Vicki along with one of her girlfriends were actually the first people that I knew personally to grow natural. She had a very different textured hair than mine, and although her hair was very thick, I was still apprehensive. I knew that my hair couldn't curl up like hers and I didn't want to walk around looking like I had lost my mind. I was currently at my maximum weight, as you can see from some of the pics, so I decided to join a gym in the area. I was a mess! Everyday I left the gym, I looked like I had escaped from an insane asylum. I didn't know how to care for my hair. The sweat from my workouts and the humidity was making me look a hot mess. Unfortunately, at that time my weight was my priority so no matter what, I had to find a plan. I went online and checked out youtube and found a natural style involving flexi rods. This technique along with braids, and Julia's Dominican Salon, literally saved my life and my appearance!!!! I actually discovered that I have a very nice curl pattern to my hair, but the chemicals will mask your real texture during the straightening process. I have now learned how to care for my own hair, but in the summer I wear protective styles, mainly braids. Honestly, I think my hair is beautiful natural and I will never chemically treat it again!!!!! #teamgrownaturalforlife #saynotocreamycrack
