Day #5-Family First
Dear Lord, all I can do is say “Thank You.”
They don’t know it, but I pray for my family every single day. Even if it is a short shout out or something specific, I think about them often. I know we live in a world of social media and modern technology, but if were not for those things, I probably would not get a chance to peek into their lives, say hello or tell them that I love them, so for that I am also thankful. Last night I stopped in my tracks once I found out that one of my family members passed away. I realized that life is short. I did a trip down memory lane and realized just how long it’s been since I’ve seen many of them. One thing that I can say about families of old, they always took a lot of pictures and I am honored to be the gate keeper of several as a part of the legacy that my parents left for me, my son and my niece. Some things must be so important that you pass them down through generations. I love days like “Throwback Thursday” because it gives us time to reminisce about how great life was when our parents, grandparents and other family members were alive and well. Family has a certain bond through DNA and many of us don’t know one another. It’s difficult to know then all, especially when you live miles away from one another. If I had 1 million dollars, I would be at every milestone in each one of my family member’s lives, but realistically, that is just not possible. Today, I just want to lift my family in prayer, for we have suffered a loss. I want to thank God for her life and the fact that she is no longer suffering. I know sometimes family members don't always agree, but we're all just people and nobody is perfect. Just like with all other disputes, most of the time people can even recall why they are even upset with the other person. When it get's right down to it, it's not even worth it. No matter what, family is always first, because that’s a connection that can never be destroyed. Like the old saying goes, “You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family." That’s God’s work and He knows exactly what He’s doing.
