Below The Surface
The bible tells us that the flesh is weak. Many times we make decisions based on how we feel instead of making decisions based on what we know or what is right. We are emotional beings. Bottom line is, we feel! Sometimes we feel so strongly about a situation, and we neglect to think before we speak or do. Unfortunately, the flesh; meaning the surface is outward and superficial. It is our covering. It’s the part of us that creates the façade. Many people would rather adhere to a more surface way of thinking and reacting because it’s easier. Below the surface is our truth, the essence of who we really are. Below the surface is where we hide our fears, pain, failures and disappointments. We can fool others, even ourselves with our flesh. We can decorate our flesh based on how we feel on any given day. Our flesh causes us to lie. It’s our defense mechanism, a sort of protective layer that shields us from our reality. We believe that if we hide behind our protective layer we can’t be hurt. This procedure only works for a while. Life has a way of forcing us to confront our representative. Sometimes situations beyond our control cause us to peel back the epidermis of our being to confront the core of who we really are. It’s a process, it’s hard but it’s necessary. To have a real relationship with God we must be truthful. We can’t expect to have an authentic connection with Him shackled in the bondage of our untruth. John 4:24 tells us that ...'God is a Spirit: and they that worship him MUST worship him in spirit and in truth. Unfortunately, how many of us actually do this? Remember the truth really does set you free!!
